Comparison of Toll Fees Causeway vs Second Link Starting October 2014 - Last Update September 2014

Started from August 2014 onward, the toll fees for causeway vs second link is shown as below:

RM13.60
RM34.30
Taxis

Singapore

S$0.50

Heavy Goods Vehicles
S$2.60
S$14.70
Taxis
S$0.60
S$2.50
Buses
S$1.00
S$3.90

Here to do some comparison. For private cars to travel in between Singapore and Malaysia, the total cost of toll fees is:

Causeway link: RM 16.50 + S$ 1.20 = RM 19.58 / S$ 7.63
Second link: (RM 7.50 + S$ 3.20) * 2 (round trip) = RM 31.42 / S$ 12.25

Last Update - August 2014

So, it means that it is now cheaper to go via second link toll compared to Causeway link toll. I hope it could reduce congestion in causeway link by directing certain traffic flow to second link. Nusajaya now may given a boost to increase economical activity there compared to Johor Bahru old town.

* I have made a mistake, the second link toll fares should be calculated as times 2 as both tolls charged twice when you came in and out. It is still cheaper for people to come to / from Singapore via causeway. Nonetheless, I heard that Singapore may announce the increase of toll fees in Woodlands custom. It may end up on par with second link later if Singapore would increase the toll fees of another RM16.50 / S$ 6.40 at Woodlands check point.

Let's get our fingers crossed...

Last Update - September 2014

It has been confirmed that Singapore will follow Malaysia step to increase the toll fee starting from October 2014. The fee is shown as below:

Vehicle Category
Woodlands Checkpoint (arrival)
Woodlands Checkpoint (Departure)
Tuas Checkpoint
(arrival & departure)
Motorcycles
-
-
S$0.50
Cars
S$2.70
$3.80
S$3.20
Vans/Light Goods Vehicles*
S$4.00
$5.80
S$7.40
Heavy Goods Vehicles
S$5.30
S$7.80
S$14.70
Taxis
S$1.40
S$1.90
S$2.50
Buses
S$2.20
S$3.10
S$3.90

I believe that there will be an increase of traffic in Tuas Checkpoint as more people are willing to live in Nusajaya / Skudai / Pulai / Kulai area and work in Singapore.

Rough calculation of the total toll fee for private car each checkpoint:

Woodlands: RM9.70 + RM6.80 + S$2.70 + S$3.80 = RM16.50 + S$6.50

Tuas Check Point: RM15.00 + S$6.40

So it is better if we can take Tuas Checkpoint for round trip starting October 2014.
