Open Letter to the Young Investors

Hi,

Let me share with you one story that happened to me, and I hope that you could benefit from here.

Once upon a time, there was a silly guy wanted to achieve financial freedom. He did not want to work for others for his whole life. He then thought of many ways to do so. First of all, he thought of opening a business. However, he did not have enough capital as well as the domain knowledge to do so. After graduated from the university, he followed the traditional way to work under people, with the hope to learn as much as he could, so that he could open his own firm later. But he still did not have concrete plan to do so.

After the 1st job, he realized that his ambition is to open an investment firm to manage other people's money. When he had that thought, he was 24 years old. He quit the 1st job just 9 months later. After that, he chose to work in Kuala Lumpur, a city that he never thought of working there as it was 300KM away from his hometown. Since then, he has more time to learn about the investment skills and investment strategy. He joined the CFA course and practiced the skills from the knowledge gained there. He also actively participated in the Investment Forum. He learned this course from his friend who had the same interest with him as well as from the book, that CFA is the course that established by the Benjamin Graham. After passing CFA level 1 exam, he intended to quit the job in KL and joined an investment firm. However, due to some personal reasons, he stayed there and eventually went back to Singapore and work under a stock brokering firm.

He started over again. He thought of becoming a fund manager eventually in that company. He tried very hard to pass all the exams such as M5, M8, M9, HI and even took the ChFC course. However, he realized that it did not work as his English not very good and he did not passed the CFA examination, after that he turned back to focus back on CFA and passed the level II exam.

Now, he wishes to continue to pursue his dream to open his own investment firm by becoming an independent dealer / remisier with the hope to accumulate the client base to invest in his investment firm that he wishes to open later on. His action now is to pass the CFA level III exam and be a CFA
charter holder one day later.

My story to you is that, DO NOT GIVE UP FOR WHAT YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE. It is never too old to dream. Do not let the obstacles to stop you. Instead, step on the obstacles and climb higher. You will realize that it is not as hard as you thought.
